Fresh concerns have emerged over the political strategy of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as analysts warn that the party may have pushed its tactics too far ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise News, respected Political Editor, Sumner Sambo, delivered a blunt assessment of the APC's current approach, cautioning that what appears to be strategic dominance could, in reality, be a dangerous overreach.

According to Sambo, the outcome of the last general election should serve as a critical lesson for the ruling party, emphasizing that the race was far from a landslide victory and instead reflected a tightly contested political battle.

He warned that any assumption of an easy victory in 2027 could prove to be a costly miscalculation, particularly as emerging political dynamics appear to be shifting in favour of opposition consolidation.

"I think it will be bad politics on their part to confidently assume victory. The APC is over-strategizing and pushing its luck too far,ÔÇØ Sambo stated.

In what many observers see as a significant insight into Nigeria's evolving political landscape, Sambo argued that the APC's tactics may have unintentionally created the conditions for opposition unity-something that could dramatically alter the balance of power ahead of the next election.

He pointed to key opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, noting that their respective support bases recorded figures close to that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last election.

According to him, a more effective political strategy would have been to keep these opposition blocs divided rather than allowing circumstances that encourage them to align under a common platform.

"I thought the best politics would have been to ensure these groups remained separate. But what we are seeing now is a scenario where they are being pushed together,ÔÇØ he explained.

Sambo further stressed that the potential coalition of opposition forces poses a significant risk to the ruling party, especially if it translates into a unified electoral front.

"I'm thinking that the APC has overplayed itself. The tactics are being overstretched, and if care is not taken, it could affect the outcome in the next election,ÔÇØ he warned.
