11 MONTHS SALARY ARREARS: ABIA STATE HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT BOARD PROTEST (VIDEO + PHOTOS)

Staff of Hospital Management Board [HMB] Umuahia today September 2nd 2019, blocked the main entrance of the board in protest over 11 months' salary arrears owe them by the government.

Speaking with Abia Facts online TV reporter, some of the staff such as Mr. Ejibe Okoro explained that the last salary alert he received was on September 2018, pointing out that ever since, his family has been subjected to an untold hardship.

He therefore call on the government to as a matter of urgency pay their salaries so as to cushion the effect

Also speaking the Chairman Medical and Health Workers Union Abia State Council Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya said that the union had an agreement with the government and they promised to be paying on monthly basis and lamented that up till now, nothing has been done about it.

Comrade Ogbonnaya, while calling on the Speaker Abia State House of Assembly and the members to intervene in the plights of HMB staff, equally call on the State government to as a matter of urgency pay their salaries.

On his part, Mr. Omini Ojah who is equally a staff of the board, noted that the action of the workers are justified having been owed backlog of salary arrears for 11 months by the government also call on the them to hasten up and pay all that is due them for peace to reign in the State.

Other staff who spoke such as Mrs. Nnenna Kalu and Gladys Ekeoma lamented that the non-payment of salaries by the government has affected them negatively as their families now leave from hand to mouth due to untold hardship, adding that a worker deserves his wages.

They explained that their children no longer go to school due to their non-payment of salary to cater for all their needs and call on the government and every one involve, to help reduce their sufferings.
