2023 RACE: Why Abia Governance Should Be Entrusted To Me - Emma Nwaka Reveals | WATCH VIDEO

Former Abia State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Emma Nwaka, has formally declared interest to run for the 2023 governorship position in the state under his party.

Nwaka, a third Republic Senator who represented Abia North at the red chamber, declared his ambition to the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the party's state secretariat in Umuahia.

According to Nwaka, he got divine inspiration about a year ago to run for the number one citizen position in the state and not by impulsion.

"It was about a year ago that the divine inspiration to aspire to the number one job in Abia state struck me...... the decision to throw my hat in the ring is entirely mine and not by prompting of any individual or group".

He revealed that he has made his intention known to the state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the Executive committee of ward 5, Oguduasa in Isuikwuato LGA, Abia North Zonal Committee of the party and subsequently, the State Executive Committee.

Nwaka pleaded with the state chairman, Rt Hon, Asiforo Okere to 'send him' as the party ticket bearer for the 2023 gubernatorial election.

"It is with all sense of humility and the courage of my conviction that I say to you, HERE AM I, SEND ME. Send me as the candidate of PDP in the forthcoming 2023 governorship election in Abia state."

He expressed confidence that he possess all the necessary qualities required having served in various arms in the state and beyond.

"...I dare say that you all will agree that my life's journey has sufficiently equipped me for this moment. My manifold experiences from the court room to the board room through to the legislative and the executive arms of government including having had to provide leadership at a very critical juncture in the life of our party, Without gainsaying it, have put me in good stead to serve Abia state at the highest level.

"I am delighted that we have an avalanche of men and women with the requisite education and exposure ready to partner with me, people whose driving force is not self enrichment but are actuated by the desire to deliver to us the Abia State of the dreams of the founding fathers of the state."

He maintained that according to the Abia Charter of Equity, Isuikwuato is the only district yet to attain power in the state.

"There is no gainsaying that Isuikwuato is the only district yet to taste power at the highest level in Abia state under our current democratic dispensation. Be that as it may, I can say with utmost confidence that I have no doubt that the leader of our party in the state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu working in concert with the state exco of our party and other stakeholders will take necessary steps to ensure that the dream of our founding fathers are not short circuited by denying the people of Isuikwuato district what is due to them at this moment in time".

Nwaka further said;

"I recognize that I am not alone in the race for PDP gubernatorial ticket though I believe strongly that I am the best man to pick it if fidelity to the party in good and bad times, credibility and integrity are traits to be considered and they should be

" I am the safest hand to be trusted with the governance of our state because you all know from my antecedents that I will run an inclusive government with sincerity of purpose and transparency.... I will make sure that no section of the state is neglected."

In his speech, the state party chairman, Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere affirmed that Nwaka possess leadership qualities, adding that the PDP is proud as a party to have his personality as an aspirant for the party's ticket.

"On behalf of the exco, we are proud of you and above all we are very happy that you mustered the confidence to aspire for the governor of this state.We can boldly say that we have a very qualified aspirant.
If primaries is tomorrow and nobody is aspiring, we will send him. But if other people are aspiring, we will put them in the same level."

Okere assured that the election will be free and fair and everyone will be given equal opportunity to participate
