25-Year Greater Aba Master Plan Set for Launch: Otti's Govt Unveils Bold Urban Renewal Blueprint

In a landmark move set to redefine the future of Aba, the commercial heartbeat of Abia State, the Abia State Government has announced the imminent launch of the 25-Year Greater Aba Master Plan. The strategic blueprint is aimed at transforming Aba into a modern, resilient, and economically vibrant city over the next two and a half decades.

This revelation was made on Monday during the post-State Executive Council (SEC) press briefing held at the Government House, Umuahia. The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed that the Aba Master plan is the product of a robust partnership between the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) and the United Nations agency, UN-Habitat.

Prince Kanu explained that the Aba master plan is structured around four strategic pillars, all focused on turning around the fortunes of a city that has long struggled with infrastructural decay, unregulated urban growth, and perennial flooding.

"The first pillar addresses road infrastructure, transportation systems, and connectivity within Aba to enhance mobility and reduce congestion,ÔÇØ he said.

According to him, the second pillar of the Aba Master Plan targets the economic revitalization of Aba. This includes the establishment and formalization of industrial zones and commercial hubs, in line with the governor's vision to restore Aba's status as the SME capital of Nigeria.

The third pillar, he noted, emphasizes sustainable development and urban expansion, providing a structured plan to accommodate the city's future growth while preserving its livability and orderliness.

Finally, the fourth pillar focuses on terrestrial resilience and flood management. Recognizing that flooding has remained a debilitating problem in Aba for decades, the plan integrates advanced flood control systems and land-use policies to mitigate this challenge once and for all.

Prince Kanu stressed that this master plan is not just another government document but a technical and visionary roadmap developed with international best practices to deliver a cleaner, safer, more organized, and economically dynamic Aba.

He emphasized that Governor Alex Otti's administration remains committed to structured development, transparency, and results-driven leadership, adding that the new plan will be implemented systematically with support from relevant stakeholders, including development partners and the private sector.

This development has already begun generating excitement across Abia, especially among residents of Aba who have long hoped for a strategic and sustainable approach to the city's regeneration.
