Residents of Omuma Road in Aba, Abia State, were thrown into shock last night after an alleged vandal attempting to cut cables from a private transformer was electrocuted on the spot.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at No. 40 Omuma Road, a building that has been under constant attack by vandals for more than a year due to its privately-owned transformer.

The landlord of the building, who also runs a pure water factory in the area, has reportedly spent millions of naira repairing the transformer after repeated acts of vandalism.

On the night of the incident, the suspected vandal and his gang allegedly returned to the site and began cutting off power cables. Unknown to them, Aba Power Company had restored flash supply to the area.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect had already cut most of the cables when tragedy struck. "He was still trying to disconnect the last line when power came back suddenly. The current gripped him and left him hanging like dried fish," one resident narrated.

The man was electrocuted instantly while his alleged accomplices fled the scene, abandoning him.

Residents who had endured months without electricity due to the incessant vandalism expressed relief that the cycle of sabotage may finally be broken.

The body of the suspected vandal was later removed, while authorities are expected to carry out further investigations.
