Abba Moro: Wike's APC Ties No Threat to PDP, Focus Must Be on Unity

The Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South, Abba Moro, has stated that the alignment between former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), poses no significant threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting of the PDP Senate Caucus in Abuja on Wednesday, Abba Moro highlighted that the party's primary concern should be resolving its leadership issues and strengthening internal cohesion.

"The PDP is not just about Damagun or Wike; it's about all its members. Wike's actions are not unusual in politics. What truly matters is our collective resolve to rebuild and stabilize the PDP to return to its winning ways,ÔÇØ Moro said.

Moro emphasized that genuine party faithful should direct their energies toward resolving internal issues rather than fixating on Wike's relationship with the APC and President Bola Tinubu. He noted that despite electoral setbacks, the PDP remains committed to regaining its influence.

"We have reviewed our performance in the Edo and Ondo off-season elections. Losses are painful, but they present lessons for future victories. Our efforts are now concentrated on avoiding such setbacks, particularly in states where we hold governance, like Osun,ÔÇØ he explained.

During the meeting, the PDP Senate Caucus accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of undermining the electoral process and called for urgent reforms.

"We need to restore the sanctity of the ballot. INEC's conduct in recent elections has been questionable, and as lawmakers, we must push for reforms that guarantee free, fair, and credible elections,ÔÇØ Moro said.

Abba Moro reiterated that Wike's relationship with the APC should not distract the PDP from its mission to rebuild and prepare for upcoming elections. He encouraged members to work together to ensure stability and strengthen the party's grassroots structures.

"We are tirelessly working to ensure that the PDP remains a formidable opposition and a viable alternative to the ruling party. Internal unity and strategic planning are key to achieving this,ÔÇØ Moro concluded.
