ABIA ASSEMBLY: CHIKWENDU KANU, 7TH ASSEMBLY SPEAKER-SHIP, THE INTRIGUES INTENSIFIES

It should be remembered that the Speaker-ship of Abia State House of Assembly was zoned to Abia Central due to the fact that Abia South has the governorship position, while Abia North has the Deputy Governorship position.

During the 6th Assembly which will soon expire, the assembly experienced an impeachment and a resignation of 2 speakers while the 3rd one still on seat is Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kanu. Rt. Hon. Martins Azubuike was impeached with reasons not made public, while Rt. Hon. Bishop Kennedy Azubuike Njoku resigned.

In Abia Central that the Speakership is zoned to, 5 House of Assembly members were returned elected which obviously means they are ranking members and qualified to via for the position of Speaker. The returned members are; Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kanu (The Current Speaker), Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji (The Current House Leader), Hon. Kelechi Onuzurike, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo and Rt. Hon. Bishop Kennedy Azubuike Njoku.

At the moment, Abia Facts News has gathered creditably that the current speaker has thrown his hat into the ring and is determined to retain his seat, unconfirmed reports has it that the current leader of the House is interested, while Bishop, Onuzurike are also interested.

Based on information from some sources, it seems some re elected members are not too comfortable with the re election of Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kanu as Speaker, but are open to other aspirants for that same position.

While some newly elected members are also more favourable to a brand-new speaker because of their political interest.

At the moment, Governor Okezie Ikpreazu is holidaying in US and we gathered that he has a major role to play in deciding who will emerge speaker.
