Abia Assembly request Contractor Handling Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway To Return To Site

The Abia State House of Assembly has requested that the Contractor Handling the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway To Return To Site and provide palliative work on the ariaria axis of the road which is currently in a deplorable state.

AFNEWS reporter who monitored the plenary of the house report that the resolution to plead with the contractor to return to site was agreed by the Honourable members of the house in response to the matter of public urgency raised and brought before the house by Hon Aaron Uzosike who is the member representing Aba North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly.
Honourable Aaron Uzosike had during plenary on July 7th 2020 brought to the attention of the House the deplorable state of Enugu - Port Harcourt Expressway, more specifically the Ariaria axis which falls within Aba North State Constituency.

He said people could no longer move freely because of the traffic congestion caused by the bad spots of the road. According to him while addressing the house "Mr Speaker, the most worrisome is that armed robbers and kidnappers are now using that spot to rob and kidnap unsuspecting members of the public".
After submitting his proposal ,the House took a unanimous decision " That the State Ministry of Works should undertake a palliative work on the spot.The house also Called on the Federal Controller of Works in Abia State to grant permission to Arab Contractors handling the Enugu - Port Harcourt Expressway to go back to site since the Federal Government has lifted the ban on inter State movement.

Other matters considered by the members of the house before the close of plenary is H.A.B 19: The Abia State Physical Planning and Infrastructural Development Fund Law (Amendment No.4) Bill 2020 sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon Solomon Akpulonu. the second is H.A.B. 20:which is The Abia State Board of Internal Revenue Law (Amendment No.3) Bill 2020.

While speaking in favour of the bill, the Majority Leader, Hon Solomon Akpulonu, said" the Bill sought to strengthen the Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development Fund( PPIDF) for optimal delivery and called for support from Members of the House to enable the two Bills scale through."
However, the Bills were stepped down to be considered for another Legislative Day since it was necessary that the house should close her plenary for the day to reconvene the next day
