Abia House of Assembly: AFNEWS to embark on an overview of performance of each legislator

AFNEWS a leading online media house in Abia State will be embarking on a project to review the performance of legislators that constitute the 7th Abia State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt Hon. Chinedum Enyinnanya Orji. This was disclosed to members of the public by Emenike Iroegbu the Publisher/CEO of Gold Ink Communication Ltd,the publishers of AFNEWS on his verified Facebook page on Saturday 9th January, 2021.

According to Mr Iroegbu, the Abia State House of Assembly has 24 members representing different constituencies in Abia State. The constituencies which includes;Isuikwuato ,Umunneochi ,Bende North ,Bende South ,Ohafia North ,Ohafia South ,Arochukwu ,Umuahia North ,Umuahia South ,Umuahia East ,Umuahia Central ,Isiala Ngwa North ,Isiala Ngwa South ,Osisioma North,Osisioma South,Ugwunagbo,Ukwa West ,Ukwa East ,Aba North ,Aba South ,Aba Central ,Obingwa East,Obingwa West and Ikwuano. The AFNEWS publisher said that "People hardly ask questions as regards what is happening in the ABHA, people hardly ask what their representatives are doing in the house".

He further opined that "It is important to state that the job of the legislature is representation, lawmaking, and oversight function. But one other very important aspect that is not stated is the attraction of projects (constituency projects)". He argued that "In fact during elections in this our clime, legislators are 60% assessed with the number of projects they are able to attract, 40% assessed with the bills, motions and matters of urgent importance they raised in the house".

Mr Iroegbu stated that "In as such much as we desire our legislators to attract projects, it is also very important that our legislators represent us very well on the floor of the house. We dont want our legislators to be Ayes and Nays members". He added that "let the truth be told, we have a lot of Ayes and Nays legislators in ABHA and we dont know how much oversight function this assembly has conducted. We will discover during this journey".

The Abia base journalist also revealed that after much brain storming, he discovered that Abia state lacks records of the activities and achievements of elected and appointed political leaders in the State. He said,this kind of document is very important for reference sake and posterity. It is very important. He further argued that if at all such documents are available they are fragmented and disjointed.

Mr Iroegbu said ,in view of the above,AFNEWS we will be embarking on a book project titled ABIA LEADERSHIP REVIEW. He opined that a team will be created that will embark on this project ,he promised to give more information from next week. He revealed that "this book will look at the achievements of our leaders in terms of projects and policies that have affected the lives of ndi Abia positively or negatively".

The AFNEWS boss implored the general public to be ready as the media house will bring then records of their representatives. "We will be bringing out their achievement in terms of bills, motions, matters of urgent importance they have moved including constituency project".

He however disclosed that, to avoid acrimony, AFNEWS will be formally writing house members requesting for information that will be made public to readers
