Abia Legislature Adjourns Plenary Indefinitely As Deputy Speaker, Majority Escapes Impeachment

The Abia State house of assembly has adjourned its plenary indefinitely. This is as a result of a motion of urgent public importance brought before the house by Deputy Majority Leader and Member representing Ukwa East State Constituency Hon Paul Taribo during plenary on Tuesday February 22nd,2022.

In the motion Rt. Hon Taribo stated that some Principal Officers of the House have not performed very well and have not lived up to their expectations. He therefore called on the Speaker Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji to look into the activities of the Majority Leader and Deputy -Speaker and approve votes for their removal.

Contributing to the motion for the removal of the two principal officers ,Hon Chijioke Chukwu, Hon Obinna Ichita, Hon Thomas A.C. Nkoro, Hon Munachim Alozie, Hon Okey Igwe and Rt Hon Chikwendu Kalu, called for an adjournment of the plenary to allow frayed nerves calm down.

The speaker of the house, Rt.Hon Chinedum Orji while responding to the motion adduced that the Honorable Member who brought the motion of urgent public importance did not give definite reasons and the offence of the principal officers in question on why they should be impeached. In view of this ,the Speaker adjourned plenary indefinitely.

However ,before the uproar that engulfed the house on Tuesday February 22nd 2022 ,the speaker announced the screening and confirmation of members of the Abia State Judicial Service Commission. Those screened and confirmed includes; Barr Henry Balogu, Mr Anagho Kalu, Mrs Joy Nwakanma ,Mr Clement Ugorji and Greg Chikezie .Following this development, the Speaker requested the Clerk of the House to write a letter to the Governor and inform him about the screening and confirmation of the Members of the state judicial service commission.
