The 2019 United People's Party UPP candidate for the Federal House Of Representative for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency Engr Dr. Steve Ochonma has expressed his readiness to return to the ruling People's Democratic Party PDP in Abia State.
He made his intent and position known while featuring in an AF Television current affairs program " Focal point" on Saturday 10th October 2020 anchored by Mr. Emenike Iroegbu.
According to Engr. Dr. Steve Ochonma" I have been and was with the People's Democratic Party PDP since 1999 . As a loyal party man . I worked hard and contributed immensely to the success story of the party across all lines. Until 2015 when I left to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA . "

The 2019 House representative candidate revealed that he is going back home to PDP after immerse consultation with his support base.

"I have done my consultation with my supporters and i believe going back to PDP which is my home is the way to go, i want to go back and contribute to the success of the party"
During the interaction, he revealed what happened during the 2019 election when he failed to get the APGA House of representative ticket.

Engr. Dr. Steve Ochoma said " he wanted to contest for the Federal House of Representatives and therefore needed a platform through which he was certain that his aspiration would come to pass as at that time "

" Moreover I discovered I could not secure that ticket under the platform of People's Democratic Party PDP. I pick the nomination form of APGA and contested for the primary Election of APGA for a candidate who will represent the party at the general election that year "

" I had greater chances of picking the ticket and it was obvious that all things being equal that I would emerge victorious at the primary Election. I successfully undergo the screening exercise just like others . But to my greatest displeasure and shock . I learnt a day before the primary Election that some candidates have been disqualified from contesting the primary Election and therefore they should desist from participating in the primary Election. "

" Though it came as a shock to me but at the end of the primary Election which I did not participate. I went to the person who won that Election and Congratulated him and asked him to reach out to other aspirants so that they can all work together for him. But he did not consider my support as anything necessary so I decided to quit from the party and pitch my tent with UPP under which platform I contested that Election"
When asked what he is bring to PDP, he revealed;
"I am coming with experience, ideas and loyalty to push the party forward. Arochukwu is PDP, has been PDP for a long time, so i see the party as the platform to achieve my aspiration".
He finally revealed that he will be moving to PDP formally before the end of October 2020.
