ABIA NORTH 2019: HOW ORJI KALU ALLEGEDLY CONTRIBUTED TO THE BAD STATE OF ISUIKWUATO EROSION - SEN. MAO EXPOSES

Senator Ohuabunwa who went ahead to give account of his representation, made damning remarks about his opponents citing their lack of plans for Abia North and having sinister motives as the reasons for their not participating in the said debate.

However, the main moment in the interaction was when Senator Ohuabunwa was asked about the state of the Isuikwuato-Uturu road which has been badly damage by erosion, leading to a landslide at some point of the road, Senator Ohuabunwa launched an attack on the former governor of the state and his opponent, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu alleging that the former governor diverted the fund released for the erosion control , he said, "the erosion began sometime in 1999 during the tenure of Orji Kalu. I (as the leader of the house) was part of the Presidential delegation led by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, where 350 million was made available, the money was diverted, which got the President angry, thereby stopping the release of further funds for it."

"In all this, due to the constant insults thrown at the former president by our ex-governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, the president withdrew all machines that were working in Abia state and transferred them to neighboring states. So, when you look at their antecedents, it tells you that they have nothing to offer our people. We can other allow somebody who is more interested in politics than development to represent us.

"We have gone beyond when Abia was in darkness, which the tenure of Orji Kalu masterminded, that is why the senatorial election for Abia North is a serious matter. The senate is not a place of buying and selling, it is not a place for idolatry. We are in for serious business here. It is a place where serious people go to make impact." Ohuabunwa said.
