ABIA: Northern Groups Reacts To Killing Of Cattle Marketers In Aba | READ DETAILS

The Coalition of Northern Groups in Nigeria (CNG) and the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), have frowned at the recent attack and killing of cattle marketers in Aba, the commercial city of Abia state.

Recall that the New Cattle Market located in Omumauzor, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the State came under attack on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at about 11:35pm, claiming the lives of 8 people and cows.

The state government promised to get to the root of the matter while it makes arrangement to compensate affected persons.

Spokesman of the CNG, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, reacting in a statement said in part;

"We have studied the unfolding events carefully and with considerable restraint and maturity, to the point of condoning and accommodating several unreasonable and unacceptable actions that have been perpetrated against northerners in the South East in particular.

"The recent attack in Abia has taken matters to a point whereby silence has become complicity and inaction is no longer an option in the face of unprovoked evictions, attacks and killings of northerners in various parts of the South East.ÔÇØ

On the other hand, the National President of the AYCF, Alhaji Yerima shettima said;

"As a group, we are still deeply concerned about the murder of northerners resident in Abia, who are doing legitimate business. We are also deeply touched by the report of scores of others sustaining various degrees of injury and have now been hospitalized.ÔÇØ

"The AYCF will be following closely the efforts of Abia State Government to fulfill its promise of providing compensation for the families and survivors of the attack. We pray this should be last bad news we would hear about innocent Northern traders, from not just Abia but the entire Southeast, in the spirit of national unity and stability.ÔÇØ
