The management of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (formerly Abia State Polytechnic), has secured a massive N2 billion intervention fund from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), marking one of the boldest achievements in the institution's history.

Governor Alex Otti, while addressing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, described the intervention as a strategic breakthrough that will reposition the polytechnic for academic excellence and infrastructural upgrade.

In addition to this landmark development, the Governor announced that his administration has successfully paid 340 out of the 461 staff who were disengaged from the institution between 2018 and 2021. He further assured that the remaining 121 workers would be settled immediately after the completion of an ongoing verification exercise.

Governor Otti emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the true circumstances that led to the controversial disengagement. He assured that any staff unjustly removed from service would be reinstated as part of his government's commitment to fairness, justice, and human capital development.

He also commended the new management of the polytechnic for their vision and proactive leadership which attracted the N2 billion TETFund support, describing it as evidence that Abia is on the path of educational renewal.

"Education remains the bedrock of development, and my administration will continue to provide the needed support to ensure that Abia institutions compete favourably with the best in the country," Otti affirmed.

This latest intervention adds to the growing list of reforms in Abia under Governor Otti's administration, positioning the state as a model for accountability, fairness, and development-driven governance.
