The aggrieved workers peacefully barricaded the entrance to the ministry for women affairs in Umuahia, the capital city carrying placards with various inscriptions like; " social workers' life of the society and future of the whole world; Pay us our CONHESS, our counterparts enjoy it, we are not asking too much".

Speaking to newsmen, Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya, Abia state Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) Chairman and also the chairman, medical and health union workers of Nigeria, Abia state chapter lamented the long overdue neglect of social workers in the ministry while others like the Health Management Board have been benefiting from CONHESS.

"The approval given for their (social workers) welfare, nobody is talking about it for a year and eight months that is why we are not happy" Ogbonnaya stated.

He maintained that the workers welfare should be prioritized as they suffer the hazards associated with their job which include moving mad people from the streets, moving abandoned babies from the streets among other tasking duties.

Addressing the aggrieved workers, the wife of the governor, Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu represented by Chief Mrs Love Ezema called for calm assuring that the matter would be resolved before the end of the week.

Responding, the social workers through Ogbonnaya, appreciated the governor's wife for her timely intervention. They pledged their allegiance to the administration of governor Okezie Ikpeazu expressing confidence that the governor's wife will keep to her promise and meet their demands.
