Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has awarded the reconstruction of the collapsed Abiriba-Nkporo Road, reaffirming his administration's commitment to rural development while also strengthening the political base of the Labour Party in Ohafia Local Government Area.

The announcement came on Saturday, August 23, 2025, during a grand reception in Nkporo where the governor officially welcomed the former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, into the Labour Party.

Governor Otti revealed that the 2023 governorship election that brought him to office was not about party labels but about individuals with capacity and credibility, stressing that Ude Oko Chukwu's supported his campaign at that time.

"The 2023 election was different because it was about individuals. I stand bold to say that throughout the campaigns and the election proper, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu supported us fully. I remember one of our conversations where he told me he had assessed all the candidates and believed I had what it takes to work for the people of Abia. I am glad he has given us a pass mark," Otti declared.

Highlighting his administration's commitment to infrastructure, Otti revealed that the Abiriba-Nkporo Road has already been awarded for reconstruction. He assured the people of Nkporo that his government will deliver on its promises, stressing that rural communities will no longer be abandoned in the new Abia.

Addressing the political significance of Ude Oko Chukwu's defection, Otti assured him and his supporters of equal rights within the Labour Party, noting that whether one joined the party in 2022 or today, they will be treated as true stakeholders.

The governor thanked the people of Nkporo for the massive turnout at the event, describing it as a demonstration of unity and collective desire for good governance.

Ude Oko Chukwu's move to Labour Party is seen as a major political boost for Otti in Abia North, especially as the governor continues to combine political consolidation with grassroots development projects like the Nkporo Road reconstruction.
