Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) officials have suffered another blow in an embarrassing moment as the wrong anthem was played thrice for the Mauritanian team in their opening game against Gambia.

The drama came two hours after Group F's game between Mali and Tunisia was brought to a controversial end in Limbe, a coastal city in the host nation, Cameroon on Wednesday, the 12th of January 2021.

The Al- Murabitun of Mauritania were lost in perplexity as two attempts at playing the Mauritanian anthem before kick-off ended in futility.

After the stadium announcer declared Mauritania would sing the anthem, a third attempt was quickly cut short after the country's old anthem was played once more.
