AFCON Imposes $100,000 Fine On Egypt Ahead Of Semi-Final | READ WHY

Ahead of AFCON 2021 semi-final clash, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has imposed a fine of $100,000 on the Egyptian Football Federation for failing to honour a pre- match conference prior to their quarter-final show down with Morocco at the weekend.

The body's Disciplinary Board in a statement stated Egypt had breached the media protocols and directives of the game by failing to give the pre-match conference.

They added the Media and CAF Rights Holders had waited almost two hours for Egypt to arrive for the scheduled press conference.

The statement released on CAF website reads:

"The CAF Disciplinary Board has imposed a fine of 100 000 USD, with 50 000 suspended, to the Egypt Football Association (EFA) for breaching CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 media protocols and directives.

"This is after Egypt FA failed to honour a media press conference on 29 January 2022 ahead of their match against Morocco in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals in Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium which is part of the obligations for all the participating teams.

The Pharaohs of Egypt are slated to play against hosts Cameroon on Thursday, 3rd of February 2022.
