After Our Story, Access Bank Reverses N198,000 Taken From Customer's Account While Asleep
Access Bank has returned the sum of N198,741 to Grace, the Lagos State resident whose money disappeared from her account while she was asleep.

The bank refunded Grace's money on Monday, June 3, nearly two weeks after Our reported how she woke up to a message containing an unauthorised One-Time Password (OTP) and multiple debit alerts from Access Bank in the early hours of April 30, 2024.

"I got the reversal of my money today (Monday) from Access Bank. Thank you so much for your efforts," she wrote to the press.

When Grace first reached out to the press in May, she revealed that all efforts to make the bank reverse the unauthorised debits had been abortive.

The bank even advised her to get a court order, which would have cost her more money. She did not obtain the court order in the end, and the bank reversed the money five weeks after the unauthorised transactions occurred.

Before the money was returned, the bank sent her a message to empathise with her for the loss of funds and to notify her that the case was closed, meaning there was nothing they could do to recover it.

When the press asked how it was eventually reversed without the bank order, she said, "I went to the headquarters to make my complaints, too. I had someone also following up with them on Twitter. I kept in touch with the contact centre. Thank you so much for your efforts, too."
