Akpabio Reveals When Nigeria Will Achieve Fuel Self-Sufficiency

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announces that Nigeria will achieve self-sufficiency in fuel production by July 2024, praising President Tinubu's bold economic reforms.

Calabar, Nigeria - Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the country will achieve self-sufficiency in Premium Motor Spirit (Petroleum) production within the next four weeks. Speaking at the one-day South-South APC conference held in Calabar, Akpabio commended President Bola Tinubu for the bold decision to remove the fuel subsidy, emphasizing that the temporary hardships resulting from this policy change would soon be alleviated.

"I went round the Dangote refinery and found out that by this July 2024, Nigeria is about to become self-sufficient in the production of PMS,ÔÇØ Akpabio stated. "As of today, it produces enough diesel and it's already exporting to other countries. Same with fertiliser and Urea. So we are getting to that era in the country where we produce what we consume and consume what we produce.ÔÇØ

Akpabio also assured that ongoing negotiations regarding a new minimum wage would be concluded shortly, promising that Nigerians would benefit from these economic improvements. "Very soon we'll conclude negotiations on minimum wage and Nigerians will be happy for it,ÔÇØ he assured.
Reflecting on the state of the economy, Akpabio noted, "The economy we met was not in good shape at all, I call it a 'foamy economy.' Despite that, the President consistently tells me, 'I cannot complain; I campaigned and danced for this job, so I must do it and I must do it well'.ÔÇØ
Akpabio's statements provide a hopeful outlook for Nigeria's economic future, emphasizing the positive impacts of current reforms and the country's move towards greater self-reliance in critical sectors.
