Amid growing insecurity in Anambra State, Anglican priest and Archdeacon of Oyi Central, Ven David Arinze Ajaefobi, was reportedly kidnapped Saturday night at his parish gate in Awkuzu. The incident underscores escalating crime concerns as police vow to investigate.

In a troubling incident reflecting Anambra State's rising crime rate, Anglican Archdeacon Ven David Arinze Ajaefobi was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday night, October 26, 2024. Archdeacon Ajaefobi, known for his role as Vicar of St James' Parish in Awkuzu and as the Archdeacon of Oyi Central Archdeaconry, was allegedly taken by unknown individuals at the parish entrance in Awkuzu, located in the Oyi Local Government Area.

The kidnapping occurred around 9:00 PM, a source revealed, noting that the abduction at the church's gate has left parishioners and residents alarmed. In a state increasingly marred by criminal activities, the abduction of a religious figure is seen as a stark sign of escalating insecurity. According to community members, no ransom demand or communication from the abductors has been made as of this report. In response to the crisis, the church has initiated prayer sessions, calling for Archdeacon David Arinze Ajaefobi's safe release.

The kidnapping of Anglican Archdeacon Ven David Arinze Ajaefobi highlights the concerning trend of kidnappings, armed robberies, and other forms of criminality plaguing Anambra State. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted, stated that the Anambra State Police Command had not yet received a formal report on the incident. However, Ikenga assured that the police are monitoring the situation and will take appropriate action upon confirmation.
