Army Releases Official Portrait Of The New Chief Of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday, 10th March 2021 released the official portrait of the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.

It will be recalled that Attahiru was part of the new service chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on 26th January 2021.

He replaced Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai as the 21st Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Attahiru's official portrait as the 21st Chief of Army Staff was released on the official Twitter handle of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday.

The development comes few days after President Muhammadu Buhari last week Friday, decorated the nation's new service chiefs with their new ranks.

The ceremony held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The President was assisted by his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and wives of the decorated military chiefs.

With their new ranks, the service chiefs are now General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defense Staff; Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amoo, Chief of Air Staff.

Earlier, the National Assembly had confirmed the appointment of the new Service Chiefs following the consideration of the report of the Committee on Defence which recommended their confirmation.

Meanwhile, the nation's Service Chiefs on Tuesday, paid an operational visit to Zamfara State as part of renewed efforts targeted at totally eliminating bandits and other criminals from the region.

The service chiefs were led on the visit by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor. Some principal military officers were also part of the visit.

The military chiefs during the visit, assessed the ongoing military operation in Zamfara state, as well as appraise the combat and operational readiness of troops in the Area of Operations.

The CDS and Service Chiefs were received by the Force Commander OPHD Major General Aminu Bande, Commander 1 Bde and Commander 207 NAF QRG.

The CDS in his remarks during the visit, charged the troops to remain committed and motivated in stamping out the insurgents and other criminals in the area.
