Tension is brewing in Abia's political space as Chief Enyinnaya Duke Ako Atulomah, a public affairs commentator, has criticized the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, over a reported outburst in which he allegedly invoked "thunderÔÇØ on those challenging his political position.

Chief Atulomah, in a strongly-worded statement made available to journalists, described the alleged remark as "unbecoming of a public officeholder,ÔÇØ saying that no responsible lawmaker should ever use the word 'thunder' in reference to political opponents or citizens.

He argued that leadership, especially in a democracy, is not measured by loudness or threats but by temperament, character, and self-control, adding that words from public figures carry moral weight and implications for peace and unity.

"A man who cannot control his tongue cannot be trusted to control the affairs of his people,ÔÇØ Atulomah stated, warning that such utterances, if true, could portray a dangerous level of intolerance and arrogance inconsistent with democratic norms.

Atulomah alleged that the lawmaker's reported "thunderÔÇØ remark amounts to a form of verbal intimidation capable of discouraging free political participation.
According to him, "Democracy thrives on contest, ideas, and persuasion - not fear, threats, or curses. When a lawmaker uses such language, it raises moral questions about his suitability to represent a constituency built on intellectual and political diversity.ÔÇØ
He further noted that lawmakers should serve as role models whose words unite and inspire, not divide or incite.

"The House of Representatives is not a motor park,ÔÇØ Atulomah stressed, adding that "citizens deserve a representative who promotes dialogue, not drama.ÔÇØ

Atulomah also emphasized that leadership demands emotional balance and maturity.

He said that if the allegation is true, such language does not reflect well on the office of a federal legislator.
"No leader should wish harm or call down thunder on those who oppose him politically. That's not confidence; that's insecurity,ÔÇØ he said.
He maintained that Ikwuano/Umuahia deserves a representative who brings "peace, progress, and purpose,ÔÇØ not one who deepens division through alleged inflammatory remarks.

While noting that the lawmaker is presumed innocent of any wrongdoing until proven otherwise, Atulomah urged political leaders in Abia to embrace the spirit of tolerance and responsible communication in public discourse.

"True leaders build with words that heal, not destroy,ÔÇØ he added, calling on citizens to elect representatives who show emotional intelligence and respect for democratic values.
