B00M: Why Old Man Allegedly Head -butted Policeman Who Came To Arrest Him | READ IN FULL

In a twist of fate, an aged man, Mr. Chijioke Onwuka, allegedly attacked a Policeman, Inspector Colman, who came to arrest him in his house.
This was in the inspector's witness before the Abia State Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, sitting in Umuahia on March, 10.

Mr. Onwuka had petitioned the panel, Charging, Inspector Colman of brutality which occured on June 24, 2020.

In his petition, he alleged that when he asked the police out , inspector Colman brought out a handcuff, hit him on his forehead. "When he tried to hit me , I grabbed his hand and put it into my mouth with the intention of bitting it off".
He added that the police held him for days before he was released.

In his witness, Inspector Colman said one Mr. Emmanuel Onuoha brought a petition to the police claiming that Mr. Emmanuel Onwuka sold a land which does not belong to him, worth N4million.
Colman said; when we discovered the suspect's (Mr. Onwuka) hideout, myself, Srgt Chijindu Eziubochi and the petitioner, Emmanuel Onuoha, and a keke rider went to his house.

" On knocking at his gate, Chijioke Onwuka's son, opened the gate, led us to his father's apartment.
" Mr. Eme Onwuka on sighting Mr Onuoha and us, he made to run back to his room, and jam the door.

" It was at this point that I dragged him by his shirt, he head-butted me on my nose and mouth which caused me serious bleeding. He also bite me on my right thumb.

" He said he wasn't following us anywhere, that it will take the whole police force in Aba to move him.

" When I started making calls for reinforcement, he gently followed us to the station.

"He made a statement that day, and was released the following day".
The inspector informed the court that he took the matter to Osisioma Magistrate court because of injury he sustained from the petitioner's attack, adding that the matter is still in court.

He also alleged that Mr. Onwuka with the person who bailed him, offered him N50,000 to withdraw the case but he refused, insisting that he must face the law.

Colman added that Mr Onwuka was not maltreated by the police, neither did he receive any unfriendly treatment; " the only injury he sustained was as a result of him head-butting me on my mouth.
During cross examination the petitioner's counsel, Idika , inquired if the witness showed Onwuka a warrant for arrest, he said 'no'

Idika postulated that the petitioner informed the inspector that the matter was a land matter, adding that he is an asthmatic patient and as such, needed his inhaler before going to the station. He alleged that it was at the point of Onwuka requesting to pick his inhaler, that the police forcefully, bundled him to the police station.
" You said you went to arrest the petitioner for false pretense, why didn't you charge him to court? Idika inquired.

Colman said; "I had no reason to charge him to court because the parties agreed to settle, that is when he issued bounced cheques".
Further, Idika presented a magistrate court ruling showing that the case between the inspector and Onwuka had been struck off for lacking diligent prosecution.

Colman however, when shown the document, said he was seeing it for the first time.

The petitioner's counsel inquired how Mr Onwuka at his age, could head-butt an armed Policeman.

Responding, Colman claimed that Onwuka was very agile on the said day, adding that he was informed that Onwuka is a retired soldier.

The court adjourned the matter till March 31 for address.
