The release of former military President Ibrahim Babangida's memoir, Journey in Service, has ignited a fresh wave of political controversy, particularly regarding the late General Sani Abacha's role in Nigeria's history. One of Abacha's sons, Sadiq Abacha, has hit back at critics, insisting that his father remains one of the country's most significant leaders, despite continuous criticism.

In a strongly worded Facebook post on Saturday, Sadiq alleged that his father was a victim of envy and subtle betrayal, emphasizing that history will ultimately vindicate him.

A key highlight of Babangida's book is his account of the June 12, 1993, presidential election annulment-a historic moment that has remained a sore point in Nigeria's democratic history. Babangida admitted that the election was won by Moshood Abiola but claimed that forces within his government, allegedly led by Abacha, orchestrated the annulment without his full awareness.

This revelation has sparked outrage among political analysts and historians, many of whom believe Babangida is attempting to shift blame for one of Nigeria's most controversial political decisions.

Reacting to the book's claims, Sadiq Abacha dismissed attempts to paint his father in a negative light. He described Abacha as a strong and decisive leader who was often misunderstood but remained dedicated to Nigeria's development.

He further expressed pride in his father's legacy, stating that critics of Abacha only wish they could achieve half of what he did.

Sadiq ended his post with a Hausa proverb, "Duk wanda yayi jifa a kasuwa,ÔÇØ which translates to, "Whoever throws a stone in the market..."-a subtle warning that actions always have consequences.
