Bishop Kukah Tells APC: Reduce Fuel Prices to Alleviate Nigerians' Suffering

Roman Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to take immediate action to reduce the current pump price of fuel in order to alleviate the widespread suffering across Nigeria. Speaking in Abuja during the official unveiling of The Progressive Institute (TPI), the intellectual arm of the APC, Bishop Kukah emphasized that Nigerians are experiencing unprecedented levels of hunger and economic hardship.

Bishop Kukah shared a compelling story during his speech: "A girl was asked, which party are you? APC, LP, or PDP? She replied, 'I am hungry.' We Nigerians are hungry. You have to find a way of reducing this price of fuel." Highlighting the desperation felt by millions of citizens, he called on the government to prioritize economic relief measures, including an immediate reduction in fuel prices.

The cleric further expressed concerns over the quality of democracy in Nigeria, stating, "Unless democracy is anchored on a sound foundation, we will be building on sand. I am concerned about the quality of democracy in Nigeria. We need to fix the problem with democracy in Nigeria."

The event, which brought together key APC leaders, featured the presence of National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chairman of the Progressive Governors' Forum and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as well as several ministers and APC state chairmen. The gathering focused on addressing Nigeria's current challenges, including economic instability and public discontent.
