PDP Chieftain Bode George has revealed how tribalism and religious bigotry continue to plague Nigeria's political landscape. He exposes the flaws in the country's governance system and calls for urgent restructuring to prevent further crises.

In a scathing critique of Nigeria's political landscape, former Deputy National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has revealed how tribalism, religious bigotry, and a flawed democratic system are pushing the country towards collapse. George, in an exclusive interview, warned that unless Nigeria undergoes comprehensive restructuring, its democracy will remain a sham.

The Roots of Nigeria's Political Crisis

According to George, the foundation of Nigeria's governance problems lies in the deliberate exploitation of ethnic and religious divisions by the political elite. He decried the inability of the country's leadership to prioritize good governance over self-interest.

"God blessed Nigeria with vast resources, yet we waste them. Other nations envy what we have, but we choose greed over progress. Look at Ghana; their elections are smooth, with sitting presidents conceding without drama. Here, we introduce a new system, and suddenly, there's a glitch. It's disgraceful,ÔÇØ George lamented.

Tribalism & Bigotry: The "Two DevilsÔÇØ Haunting Nigeria

George identified tribalism and religious bigotry as the greatest threats to national unity and governance. He recounted personal experiences, including how his sister, a Christian, married a Muslim and lived peacefully, questioning why religious differences should divide the country.

"Politicians manipulate religion and ethnicity for selfish gains. The British left us two devils-tribalism and religious bigotry. But tell me, what does religion have to do with governance?ÔÇØ he asked.

A Flawed Constitution Enabling Corruption

The PDP chieftain did not mince words in criticizing Nigeria's current political structure, declaring it fundamentally flawed.

"This system has failed. The constitution is the root of our problems. Every month, states go to Abuja to collect revenue instead of generating their own. That's not democracy; it's a unitary system in disguise,ÔÇØ he asserted.

George advocated for a return to the six-zone structure proposed by former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, arguing that it would ensure a fairer distribution of power.

"When one region hoards all the power, resentment builds. That's exactly what happened to my party. The presidential candidate, national chairman, and other key positions all came from the same region. That was a fundamental mistake,ÔÇØ he explained.

The Urgent Need for Restructuring

For Nigeria to move forward, George insists that restructuring is the only solution. "Not just any restructuring, but a real, practical one. If we continue on this path, we are only postponing disaster.ÔÇØ

He warned that failure to implement genuine reforms would worsen economic hardship and insecurity.

"People are suffering. The price of fuel is crippling businesses, yet those who control the banking sector are making billions. If the president truly cares, he should collaborate with the financial sector to stabilize fuel prices,ÔÇØ he urged.
