Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, MFR, OON, popularly known as Ugo'Ena of Abiriba, has issued a bold political charge, declaring that a legislative mandate is not a meal ticket but a sacred responsibility to serve the people.
In a strongly worded statement titled "A Mandate Is Not a Meal Ticket," Bourdex condemned what he described as the complacency and self-indulgence of some past and current representatives of Abia North in the Nigerian Senate. According to him, the red chamber has too often been treated as a dining hall for personal gain rather than a battlefield for the progress of the people.

"The Senate is not a lounge for the entitled, it is not a dining hall where power is consumed like a buffet," Bourdex said. "A mandate is not a meal ticket to feed a man's ego or bankroll his empire-it is a sacred trust, a weapon for service, and a battlefield for progress."
He lamented that while Abia North needed warriors to defend its interests, it was instead handed "waiters who carried trays of excuses instead of shields of courage." He accused past senators of going to Abuja to "eat, not to fight," while the region's roads collapsed, schools decayed, and young people were forced into migration in search of survival.

Bourdex stressed that true representation is not leisure but labor-one that requires courage to fight for resources, push for people-oriented policies, and demand justice for neglected communities. "Abia North needs a warrior, not a senator who treats the red chamber like a private clubhouse," he added.

With the 2027 elections looming, Bourdex insisted that the people of Abia North must rise above sentimental politics and elect leaders who understand that a mandate is a call to war against poverty, unemployment, ecological disasters, and neglect.

"Let it be clear: a mandate is not a meal ticket. It is a call to war against poverty, erosion, unemployment, and neglect. And in 2027, Abia North must choose a warrior, not a waiter," he declared.
