BREAKING: Cholera outbreak in Ebonyi claims 11 lives
A fresh cholera outbreak in Ndibokote village, Ezza Inyimagu, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has tragically claimed the lives of 11 individuals, including a nursing mother who left behind her nine-month-old baby.

The state's Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma, confirmed the grim news in a statement issued on Thursday from Abakaliki.
The outbreak was reported on September 23, and Dr Ekuma revealed that approximately 20 other affected individuals are currently receiving treatment at various medical facilities.

"The situation is alarming, and we are closely monitoring those receiving care,ÔÇØ he stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Dr Ekuma expressed gratitude to Governor Francis Nwifuru for approving funds aimed at procuring essential medical supplies to combat the outbreak effectively.

He noted that the region has established treatment centres, including the Iziogo Health Centre, Sudan Mission, Onuenyim, and Ndibokote village.

In light of the outbreak, the Commissioner advised the public to adopt strict hygiene practices and take precautionary measures to prevent further spread of the disease.

"Once you start having symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting, you should rush to any of these emergency treatment centres,ÔÇØ he urged, emphasising the importance of early medical intervention.

Health officials are mobilising resources to ensure that adequate treatment and preventive measures are in place, as the community grapples with the devastating effects of this cholera outbreak.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases immediately to the nearest health facility.
