CJN: FRESH TROUBLE FOR ONNOGHEN AS NJC ISSUES HIM FRESH QUERY, REAFFIRMS UMARU AS CHAIRMAN

The National Judical Council, NJC, on Monday issued a fresh query to the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
NJC ordered the suspended Justice to respond to a fresh petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, filed against him.

The body also set up a preliminary complaints assessment committee to review the responses given to it by Onnoghen, and the Acting CJN, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Soji Oye said NJC reconvened and resolved to constitute the Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee in accordance with Regulation 17 of the National Judicial Council Judicial Discipline Regulations, 2017.

NJC said the committee will report its finding to the council on February 13 when it will reconvene.

According to Oje: "Council also received a new petition written by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Hon. Mr. Justice W.S.N. Onnoghen, GCON and forwarded it to him for his response within seven (7) working days.

"Council reaffirmed its confidence in Hon. Mr. Justice Umaru Abdullahi, CON and continues under his Interim Chairmanship.ÔÇØ (DP)
