CORONAVIRUS: Akwa Ibom may have gotten its first patient

Unconfirmed report has it that a banker in Eket in Akwa Ibom State has tested positive of Coronavirus or COVID-19.

The report says he is the manager of a bank in Eket, he was first rushed to a private clinic where they noticed symptoms of coronavirus.

Sources say his test confirmed positive and he has being sent to Ikot Ekpene Isolation center.

We gathered that NCDC will soon announce it.

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom state commissioner for information revealed earlier in the day that the state has not banned social gatherings.

NO BAN ON SOCIAL GATHERINGS

Further to the update on COVID-19 provided by the Akwa Ibom State Government, the public is enjoined to note that the Akwa Ibom State Government has NOT placed a ban on social gatherings including churches, marriage/funeral ceremonies and other celebrations.

However, a task force has been mandated to monitor any gathering of more than 10 persons to ensure compliance with preventive measures prescribed for such gatherings which must include provision of hand washing facilities with soap and running water as well as hand sanitizers at the entrance, and ensuring at least 6 feet space between people

Infra-red thermometer (Temperature readers), must also be used at entrances and any person with high temperature; 38 degrees celsius and above, must be reported immediately to the state COVID-19 emergency center. The numbers to call are: 0818-941-1111, 0904-557-5515, 0703-521-1919.

It is important to continue to observe SOCIAL DISTANCING, avoid shaking hand, and embracing, and keep at least six feet distance from anyone who is sneezing or coughing.

Non-compliance to these measures will necessitate an immediate shutdown of such facilities or gathering by government.

The Akwa Ibom state Government will continue to monitor the situation relating to the COVID-19 and provide periodic updates.
