In what many political observers have described as a defining moment for Nigeria's main opposition party, the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has given the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the green light to proceed with its long-delayed Elective National Convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Delivering judgment in Suit No. I/1336/2025, filed by Folahan Malamo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Justice A. L. Akintola directed that no officer, servant, or agent of the party should frustrate or disrupt the scheduled convention.

"The PDP, its servants, agents, or officers are hereby restrained from truncating, frustrating, or preventing the holding of the National Convention as scheduled,ÔÇØ the judge ruled.

The ruling is viewed as a major victory for party members loyal to the convention planning committee and could significantly alter the dynamics of the ongoing power tussle within the PDP.

In a clear directive aimed at ensuring transparency, Justice Akintola also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy monitors and observers to oversee the entire process.

This judicial pronouncement, according to political analysts, reinforces the legitimacy and credibility of the forthcoming convention, which is expected to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC) and possibly redefine the party's direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ruling, described as a landmark decision, affirms the judiciary's role in upholding internal party democracy and protecting the rights of political aspirants within the framework of the law.

The court further directed Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the PDP National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), to proceed with all arrangements for the event without hindrance.

This means that the over 3,000 delegates, including statutory delegates, governors, National Assembly members, and other stakeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, can now prepare to participate fully in the convention.
