Court Dismisses FG's Suit For Kyari's Extradition To US |Read Why

Federal High Court in Abuja presided that Justice Inyang Ekwo on Monday rejected a suit filed by the Federal Government seeking for the extradition of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, to the United States of America.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, on behalf of the Federal Government filed the extradition charges against Kyari to pave the way for his extradition to the US to answer fraud allegations in a matter involving social media influencer, Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi had entered a plea bargain and pleaded guilty to charges including money laundering, wire fraud, amongst others brought against him by the court. According to court documents, he risks "20 years' imprisonment; a three-year period of supervised release; a fine of $500,000 or twice the gross gain or gross loss resulting from the offenceÔÇØ.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who delivered the judgement, noted that the extradition application FG filed through the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, was incompetent and unmerited.
