A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama, has issued a public summons against the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, over an alleged N110.4 billion fraud. The embattled ex-governor is required to appear in court on October 24, 2024, to answer to a fresh 16-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Maryanne Anenih ordered the summons after the EFCC reported difficulties in serving Yahaya Bello the charges filed against him on September 24. The charges accuse Bello and two other defendants-Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu-of criminal breach of trust involving a staggering N110.4 billion.
The EFCC, under Justice Anenih's directive, must now ensure the public summons is published in widely circulating national newspapers. Copies of the summons will also be pasted at Bello's last known address and in prominent locations within the court premises.

The arraignment was initially set for Thursday but was stalled due to Bello's absence, prompting the EFCC to take this additional step. Bello and his co-defendants are facing serious accusations that have raised eyebrows over their handling of public funds during his time as governor.
