Court Remands Nnamdi Kanu In DSS Custody, Fix Date For Continuation Of His Trial

The federal High Court, Abuja, has remanded the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in the Department of State Services (DSS), custody.
Sequel to an ex-parte application made before the court on Tuesday, by the federal government lawyer, Shuaibu Labaran, Justice Binta Nyako ordered the remand of Kanu who was brought to court handcuffed and hooded.

Justice Nyako granted an accelerated hearing by bringing the charge pending against him from the earlier adjourned date of October 20 to July 26 and 27 for the continuation of his trial.

Justice Nyako also held that the Prosecution should inform Kanu's lawyer of his re-arrest and remand in the custody of the DSS.

At the conclusion of proceedings, the DSS operatives who brought him to court, reportedly sneaked him away, using the judge's access stairs.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had earlier in a joint press briefing with the DSS and Police, revealed that Kanu was arrested on Sunday, June 27, 2021.

Kanu was reportedly arrested through intelligence and collaborative efforts of security agencies.

Kanu was granted bail in 2017 and subsequently jumped bail and was declared wanted by the government.
