Court Sentence Man For Hacking A Woman To Death With Hoe

A Jigawa State High Court has sentenced one Habibu Haruna to death by hanging for hacking a woman to death with hoe.

The Presiding Judge, Justice M. A Sambo in his ruling on Thursday, August 19, said the court found Habibu Haruna of Dan Makama Village in Suletankarkar Local Government guilty of culpable Homicide.

He said the prosecution counsel had presented two witnesses and tendered confessional statements that were admitted in evidence, and the convict testified in his defence.

The judge noted that a medical report proved that the convict had used a hoe and stick to strike the deceased Aisha Adamu on her forehead, which resulted in her death, an offence which is punishable with death under section 221 (b) of the Penal Code Law.

Having satisfied that the Prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, the Court found Haruna guilty of the offence of culpable homicide, thereby sentenced him to death by hanging.

Justice Sambo stated that the punishment will serve as a deterrent to others of similar mind.
