COVID-19: Abia Diaspora Group Donates PPEs to Hospitals

Members of Ngwa Health Foundation, a non-profit organization based in the United States of America, has donated personal protective equipment to two hospitals in Abia State to support government's efforts at fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

In a letter endorsed by the President of the Foundation, Dr Obi Emerole, the organisation commended the efforts of the Ikpeazu led administration in the war against the pandemic stressing that he would "like to commend the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, as well as the COVID 19 task force on your efforts in dealing with the unprecedented pandemic. We would like to offer our support most especially to the frontline workers in Abia State by making our small donation to the Amachara Isolation Center and ABSUTH. We wish you continued success and will continue to monitor the situationÔÇØ, he said.

Speaking while making the donation on behalf of the Foundation, the Provost of Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Prof Christian Aluka, expressed the need to protect healthcare workers who are at the frontline of the fight against the virus and called on Abians to take personal responsibility for their protection by abiding by the protective guidelines issued by NCDC, WHO and other relevant authorities.

Receiving the materials which included
300 KN95 masks, 15,000 gloves, 1,000 surgical masks, all for the Amachara Isolation Center, and 100 KN95 masks, 5,000 gloves and
250 surgical masks for the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, the Chief Executive of Abia State Hospital Management Board, Dr Ijeoma Nduka, who represented the State Commssioner for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, thanked the Foundation for the donations and urged other Abia groups to partner with the state government in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr Nduka disclosed that out of the 545 confirmed cases in the state so far, 426 patients have been successfully discharged and called on citizens to take advantage of the ongoing community testing in the state to know their COVID-19 status as, according to her, early diagnosis and management will ensure very low fatality within the state. She also expressed appreciation to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, Dr Ngozi Ogbonna-Erondu for facilitating the delivery of the materials.
