COVID-19: How Warri youths attacked Garri sellers over Hike

Youths in Ubeji community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State yesterday stormed the markets in the Area to force Sellers to reduce the prices of their goods.

However those targeted are garri sellers, the Youths poured away the goods of these sellers who they accused hiked the price of garri from #400 to #2000 almost 400% increase in price as result of the panic buying occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic which has forced most States government including Delta State to lock down their borders to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The angry Youths who spoke to Afnews reporter Tochukwu Eluwa said their action was triggered by the unbearable hike in price of food items especially garri by the sellers.

They said this the time everyone is suppose to be their brothers and sisters keep and cater for one and another rather these sellers are more interested in profiteering than the survival of fellow human beings, some of the angry Youths spoken to said the sellers are even more dangerous than the virus itself.

The Youths poured away some of the garri (casava flakes) been sold by the marketers and has asked all garri sellers in the community to peg their prices at #700.They warned that anyone caught selling above that price will risk loosing their goods.
