The former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd.), has applauded the administration of Mayor Chinedu Ekeke for delivering what he described as a "purposeful, impactful and emotionally significant projectÔÇØ, during the commissioning of a newly built NYSC Corpers Lodge in Isuikwuato Local Government Area on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, the retired Army Chief commended the decision to name the facility after late Lance Corporal Aminu Sani, a young soldier from Kaduna State who was killed in active duty on July 12, 2025, in Nunya community.

According to him, the gesture was not just noble but deeply motivating to men and officers of the Nigerian Army.
"We cannot thank Mayor Ekeke enough for remembering a fallen soldier even in death. This single act will encourage soldiers across the country,ÔÇØ General Ihejirika said.

He further urged corps members to make good use of the facility, noting that Governor Alex Otti is investing heavily in infrastructure so that young Nigerians can live, serve and thrive in better conditions.

The retired General asked Brigadier General Hassan Bello to forward the remarkable development to the Commander-in-Chief.
In his address, Mayor Chinedu Ekeke appreciated General Ihejirika and all dignitaries who attended the commissioning despite their busy schedules.

He said the quality of the new lodge reflects the leadership style of Governor Alex Otti, who insists on excellent execution for all government projects.
"People say the project is beautiful and of high quality. Truth is, we had no choice. The Governor is a lover of excellence or nothing. If he hears we built anything below standard, he will even break my head,ÔÇØ he joked.

Mayor Ekeke explained that immediately the project was completed, he notified the Governor of the plan to name the lodge after the fallen soldier, and the Governor approved it without hesitation.

"Immortalizing Lance Corporal Sani is another expression of the Governor's empathy. We honour sacrifice,ÔÇØ the Mayor noted.
He appealed to corps members to maintain the facility and ensure it stands the test of time.

The Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna SAN, praised Mayor Ekeke for achieving so much within just one year in office.

He stated that what is happening in Isuikwuato is consistent with the broader development agenda of Governor Alex Otti.
Uwanna reminded corps members that the Governor recently increased their monthly state allowance from 4,000 to 50,000 for teachers and 20,000 for corps members in other fields, stressing that youth welfare is a priority for the current administration.

Also speaking at the event, Kenneth Ahia SAN congratulated the Mayor and the entire LGA leadership team for delivering the project.

Ahia, who shared memories of serving as a corps member in old Gongola State, expressed happiness that corps members posted to Isuikwuato will now have a comfortable, secure and dignified lodge.
He pledged to return in December with additional donations to make the lodge even more enjoyable.

The lawmaker representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, Hon. Lucky Johnson, applauded the Mayor for delivering a high-quality project and assured him of full legislative support.

"You have started well, and you will surely do more,ÔÇØ he said.
Also the Leader of Isuikwuato Local Government Legislature, Honorable Onuobia Ndukaku Felix was not left in appreciating the Mayor for the commitment towards making sure Corp members enjoy their stay in isuikwuato. He assured everyone present that current leadership of the LGA will contiune in its drive to develop the LGA.

The NYSC Local Government Inspector for Isuikwuato LGA expressed deep gratitude to Mayor Ekeke for keeping his promise.

He recounted that when the Mayor first inspected the old lodge, he asked whether "human beings were actually living there,ÔÇØ and immediately vowed to fix the problem.
"Today, that promise has been fulfilled,ÔÇØ the NYSC official said.

He also praised General Ihejirika for continually supporting corps members posted to Ovim.

Commander of the 14 Brigade Ohafia, Brigadier General Hassan Bello, described the immortalization of Lance Corporal Sani as an extraordinary gesture rarely seen across the country.
He said many soldiers die in different parts of Nigeria without anyone remembering them, and this simple act of honour would encourage the morale of troops nationwide.

The event attracted a long list of dignitaries, led by the Special Guest of Honour and former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd.). Others in attendance included the Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna SAN; Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kenneth Ahia; Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Blessing Ngozi Felix; Member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson; Abia Arise Chairman for Isuikwuato, Chief Emmanuel Okoronkwo; Labour Party stakeholder, Chief Paul Iwearu; Dr. Onyinye Rufus-Obi, traditional rulers, clergy, NYSC officials and a large number of corps members.
