As Nigeria's private schools mark the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Day, philanthropist and education advocate Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso has paid tribute to Elder Mrs. Mercy Eze, fondly known as Mama Ugo, for her pioneering role in the development of Ahụọma Anyaso Educational Foundation, Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

In a message shared to commemorate the occasion, Dr. Anyaso described Elder Mrs. Eze as a "remarkable figure who shouldered our burdens during the formative years" of the foundation, noting that her leadership and dedication were instrumental to its early establishment and growth.

"Today we remember and celebrate a remarkable figure who stood by us at the beginning - our pioneering head teacher, Elder Mrs. Mercy Eze. Her contributions were integral to our foundation's initial success," Dr. Anyaso said.

While emphasizing the importance of recognizing individual contributions to education, the Abia-born industrialist also used the occasion to call attention to broader challenges in Nigeria's education sector, including issues of access, teacher training, and curriculum development.

The NAPPS Day, distinct from World Teachers' Day celebrated globally on October 5, is specially observed in Nigeria to recognize the impact of private school proprietors and educators on national development.
