Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has sounded the alarm over an alleged plan to arrest and detain him, insisting that he will not be intimidated into going into exile.

El-Rufai, who is currently in Egypt, made the revelation in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. He claimed that his political adversaries were working behind the scenes to force him out of the country.

Responding to one of his supporters, Imran Wakili, El-Rufai stated that he was aware of the threats against him but remained resolute in his decision to stay in Nigeria.

He disclosed that he had received messages of intimidation and threats through friends, family members, and political associates, all aimed at pressuring him into self-imposed exile.

"They want me to leave Nigeria, but I refuse. I have put all my academic and language-learning plans on hold because silence is no longer golden. Inaction has never been an option,ÔÇØ El-Rufai wrote.

The former governor further noted that being arrested and detained for political reasons was nothing new to him.

"I have been arrested and detained three times in the past for expressing my views about previous governments. The arrest, detention, and torture of perceived political enemies are nothing new in human affairs. But there is always a morning after.ÔÇØ

El-Rufai also reaffirmed his commitment to returning to Nigeria soon, setting February 20, 2025, as his expected arrival date.

"For those who don't sleep well when I'm in Nigeria, take note-I will be back before the launch of President Ibrahim Babangida's memoirs, in sha Allah, on February 20.ÔÇØ

He further emphasized that he feared no mortal, placing his faith in God.

El-Rufai's latest comments come amid his ongoing political battle with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and supporters of President Bola Tinubu.

The former governor recently accused the APC of lacking internal democracy, pointing out that the party's key organs have not convened in two years. His criticisms have fueled speculation about a rift between him and the current administration.
