First Timers, Emeruwa, Mmeregini, Elected Speaker, Deputy Speaker Of Abia Assembly
The member representing Aba South state constituency, Right Honourable Emmanuel Emeruwa of the Labour Party, has emerged as the Speaker of the 8th Abia State House of Assembly.

Emeruwa who is a first-time lawmaker was elected unopposed by his colleagues.

Also, Honourable Austin Mmeregini, member representing Umuahia East state constituency, also of the Labour Party was elected Deputy Speaker of the House in an election conducted by the Clerk of the House, John Pedro Irokansi, on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

The presiding officers have also been sworn into office as other House members take their oath of office.

The 8th Assembly jettisoned the existing rule book of the House to allow first timers take up presiding officers positions.
