END SARS PROTEST: Abia Lawmaker Lauds Buhari, IGP over dissolution

The Minority Whip/member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Onyekwere Mike Ukoha, has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, for harkening to the outcry of Nigerian citizens over the excesses of officials of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

The Lawmaker noted that the disbandment of SARS, is a welcome development, because it was obvious that they have deviated from their core mandate of checking armed robbery and kidnapping and have since ventured into other illegal duties, by harassing and intimidating innocent Nigerians unnecessarily.

He expressed believe that with such disbandment, it will help the Nigerian Police Force to harness other available options to ensure proper policing of our dear country.

The Minority Whip further explained that the wide condemnation of SARS, by Nigerians which sparked protests all over, has shown that the Nigerian Police, needs to embark on training and retraining of its officers, man and women, so as to be in tune with the global best policing.

He futher thanked the Inspector General for the creation of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) to replace the recently-dissolved SARS unit and the plan to commence immediate training in order to fill the gap.

He used the medium to call on youths of his constituency to continue to remain law abiding and never to allow the protest rocking all over, to push them into breakdown of law and other and prayed God to continue to bless Nigeria.
