Ex Akwa Ibom SSG, Obong Umana Replaces Akpabio | READ DETAILS

Former Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government (SSG), Obong Umana Okon Umana has been sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari as the new Minister for Niger Delta Affairs.

The swearing in took place earlier today at the Federal Executive Council Meeting presided over by the President.

Umana served as the secretary to the state government (SSG) when Godswill Akpabio was the Akwa Ibom State governor.

He joined APC in 2014 after resigning his position and emerged as the 2015 APC Akwa Ibom governorship candidate but lost to Udom Emmanuel.

He was later appointed by President Buhari as the Chief Executive & Managing Director of the of Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA).

Below is a brief profile of the accomplished technocrat and consummate politician.

Born on 20th August, 1959, in Calabar, old Cross River State. Umana from his early life left no one in doubt as to a future that will be coloured by hardwork and excellence.

After the dislocation in his early life occasioned by the Civil War, he proceeded to Edgerly Memorial School in Calabar, to round off his primary education in 1971, with Distinction in the First School Leaving Certificate. Those who did not take him seriously began to pay him deserved attention after he repeated the same feat at College.

During his last year (1976) at St. Patrick's College, Calabar, he not only scored Grade One in the West African School Certificate examinations, he also claimed the school's Best Graduating Student Award for that year.

Until his appointment as Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Umana was the managing director of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA).
