Chief Emeka Kalu, who was en route to Abia State on a private engagement, was the clear target of what security experts describe as a coordinated assassination attempt.

One of the vehicles in Emeka Kalu's convoy was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the assailants. The blast was immediately followed by a hail of gunfire, as the unknown gunmen opened fire in an attempt to halt the convoy and cause casualties.
