FACT-CHECK: No Evidence of Teenager Building, Flying Aircraft in Jos

On Sunday, Ayofe Abdullah, a social media influencer, shared what he claimed were images of a teenager flying a mini-aircraft over her village in Jos, Plateau State.

He further claimed that the mini-aircraft was built by the teenager.

Attached to the post is a collage of the said girl, the aircraft and the girl flying the device.

The teenager depicted in the image is dark-skinned, wears a blue dress and has natural weaves.

Reacting to his post, some users congratulated the unnamed teenager while others expressed doubts about the image and its origin from an AI source.

CLAIM
A 17-year-old girl in Jos, North Central, Nigeria invented a mini-aircraft and is flying it over her village.
VERIFICATION
To verify this claim, The Press ran the image through Google Lens and found that only Abdullah and Ekiti Princess, another individual on X, have the news of the teenager building an aircraft.

The Press further found similar news items from 2021, where 16-year-old Chukwu Emmanuel was said to have built a helicopter and toy jets.

Another story of 17-year-old Nwankwo Goodluck Chibuike from Anambra State, who builds drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, appeared.

To determine where Abdullah got his image from, FIJ ran the image through Hive and Illuminarty, AI detection tools, which claimed that it was not likely to have been generated with artificial intelligence.
