Faith Leaders React to Alleged Political Moves Threatening Abia Unity

Concerned about emerging political undercurrents capable of destabilizing the peace and unity of Abia State, the Abia Faith and Elders Council for Unity, Stability and Development has announced an Emergency Stakeholders' Meeting aimed at addressing what it described as troubling attempts by certain politically exposed individuals to create tension among leaders in the state.
The Council, a faith-based and non-partisan body made up of Christian clergy and respected elders from across Abia State, said the meeting became necessary following observations that some political actors were allegedly promoting narratives capable of causing avoidable divisions and distracting the state from the progress currently being recorded across various sectors.

According to a statement jointly signed by Bishop-Elect Ugoo Nwosu, Chairman, and Rev. Prince Kenneth Ogbudu, Council Coordinator, the elders noted that such developments could undermine the stability and collective focus needed for sustainable growth in the state.
The statement emphasized that Abia State has recently been experiencing visible socio-economic improvements, which the Council said should not be overshadowed by unnecessary political tensions or divisive rhetoric.

"Certain politically exposed persons appear to be attempting to create avoidable tension and disunity among leaders within our state in ways that could distract our brightest lights from the measurable progress currently being recorded in our communities,ÔÇØ the Council stated.

As custodians of moral guidance and societal stability, the Council said it was important for elders and faith leaders to reflect, consult widely and respond responsibly to ensure that the peace and unity of the state are not compromised.
The group also acknowledged ongoing reforms under the administration of Alex Chioma Otti, noting that the government has been implementing policies and development projects aimed at repositioning the socio-economic landscape of Abia State through structured and forward-looking governance.
Similarly, the Council highlighted developmental strides within Bende Federal Constituency, praising the representation of Benjamin Okezie Kalu, whom it credited with facilitating several infrastructural and human capital development initiatives that have attracted public recognition.

According to the elders, responsible leadership and institutional cooperation remain critical pillars for sustaining development across the state.
The Council stressed that its mission is anchored on peaceful coexistence, unity, stability and responsible leadership, regardless of political affiliations.

"As a Council, we identify with responsible leadership, measurable progress, institutional cooperation and peaceful coexistence. We will neither promote division nor remain indifferent where unity and stability are concerned,ÔÇØ the statement noted.

The emergency meeting, which is expected to draw religious leaders, community elders and stakeholders, will deliberate on issues affecting the peace and unity of Abia State and chart a way forward for responsible civic engagement.
The Council further disclosed that the full agenda of the meeting will be unveiled at the venue, signaling that key decisions and possible public engagements may follow the deliberations.
