"Fake Love for Aba!" - Otti's Camp Shreds Paul Ikonne's Credibility in Explosive Rebuttal

In what has become a political firestorm in Abia State, Governor Alex Otti's media team has launched a no-holds-barred attack on former Executive Secretary of NALDA and APC chieftain, Paul Ikonne, over his recent remarks accusing the Governor of harboring resentment against Aba indigenes.

In a hard-hitting press release signed by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, the state government accused Paul Ikonne of "infantile tantrums," "blackmail," and "clannish political bigotry," describing his statements as driven by deep-seated hatred and ignorance.

Ikonne, who had publicly slammed Governor Otti's long-standing opposition to the creation of new states - particularly the proposed Aba State - was accused of deliberately twisting the Governor's views to incite ethnic and political division in the state.

"If he doesn't have the intellectual gravitas to comprehend Governor Otti's economic and structural analysis of Nigeria's state creation issue, he should either ask questions or remain silent,ÔÇØ the statement read.

According to Ekeoma, Otti's opposition to state creation has been consistent, logical, and well-articulated, dating back to his 2020 article in ThisDay titled "Slicing the Fat From Our Pot Bellies,ÔÇØ where the Governor criticized Nigeria's bloated bureaucratic system. The Governor reaffirmed this stance during the recent Constitution Review Sitting in Owerri, clarifying that if any new state must be created, it should be in the South East to address regional imbalance - not just to serve political expediency.

However, Ekeoma alleged that Ikonne's motive was far from altruistic.

"This is the same man who supervised the demolition of Top View Hotel in Aba in 2007 using caterpillars at dawn - while people were still inside. He reduced the most beautiful hotel in the city to rubble just because of political disagreement,ÔÇØ the statement alleged.

Further damning allegations were leveled against Paul Ikonne, accusing him of being a serial political opportunist who betrayed the very city he now claims to defend. According to the Governor's media office, while serving as NALDA boss for four years, Ikonne allegedly focused agricultural development projects on northern states like Adamawa, Taraba, and Yobe, while leaving Abia - and Aba in particular - with nothing.

"We challenge him to show just one farmer in Aba or Abia he empowered during his time. Where are the tractors? Where are the farm estates?ÔÇØ the statement asked.

Ekeoma didn't stop there. He slammed Paul Ikonne for allegedly sponsoring fake reports against the Governor using his media outfit and accused him of raising a false alarm about a fire outbreak in his radio station last year, which investigations later revealed was caused by faulty solar installation.

"He wants to appear as a political threat, but lacks the capacity to offer constructive opposition. So he resorts to infantile lies, hate speeches, and clannish sentiments,ÔÇØ Ekeoma added.

The statement painted a picture of a man desperate for relevance - someone whose career, according to the Governor's media team, has been marked by betrayal, sycophancy, and failure to deliver meaningful contributions to his people.

"This fellow once worshipped Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, only to later abuse him when his brother ran for office. His politics is rooted in selfishness, clannish bigotry, and falsehood,ÔÇØ it read.

In a final rebuke, the Governor's spokesperson advised Ikonne to "listen to Bob Marley's Redemption Song to emancipate himself from mental slavery,ÔÇØ describing his brand of politics as outdated and divisive in a modern, progressive Abia.
