Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has strongly refuted claims suggesting that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused him of s3xual misconduct, describing such reports as baseless and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Ahmad Sajoh, Head of the Fayemi Media Office, the former governor dismissed media reports that alleged Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North) made the claim during a Senate plenary session.

Fayemi's media office, after reviewing the official proceedings of the Senate plenary, confirmed that at no point did Senator Fasuyi level such an allegation against Fayemi. Instead, the statement clarified that Fasuyi's comments referenced previous policy disputes between Fayemi and Akpoti-Uduaghan regarding the Ajaokuta Steel Company while Fayemi served as Minister of Mines and Steel Development.

"Our attention has been drawn to a misleading news report published by The Cable, which falsely claimed that Senator Fasuyi accused Dr. Kayode Fayemi of s3xual misconduct during today's Senate plenary,ÔÇØ Sajoh stated. "A review of the plenary proceedings confirms that no such allegation was made. Rather, the discussion focused on past policy disagreements between Dr. Fayemi and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company.ÔÇØ
The former governor, known for his distinguished public service record, categorically denied any involvement in inappropriate conduct, asserting that neither Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan nor any other individual has ever made such accusations against him.

"For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to reiterate that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan-or anyone else-has never accused Dr. Fayemi of any form of s3xual misconduct,ÔÇØ the statement read. "Dr. Fayemi has always conducted himself with the highest standards of integrity in public service. We condemn any attempt to link his name to unfounded and damaging allegations.ÔÇØ
Fayemi's media team further criticized the spread of misinformation, calling on media houses to uphold responsible journalism by verifying facts before publication. The statement warned against sensationalism, which not only damages reputations but also erodes public trust in the media.

"It is regrettable that some media platforms are quick to circulate misleading reports without proper verification. We urge journalists to adhere to professional ethics by ensuring their stories are based on verified facts rather than unsubstantiated claims,ÔÇØ Sajoh added.

While addressing the ongoing controversies within the Senate, Fayemi reaffirmed that his engagements with Akpoti-Uduaghan were strictly professional and centered on governance and policy discussions, particularly concerning Nigeria's mining sector.
"My interactions with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan have always been professional, with no personal disputes involved. Any attempt to twist our policy disagreements into personal allegations is misleading and should be disregarded,ÔÇØ Fayemi emphasized.
