Fraud Allegation: IG approves Abia plan protest, says group

A group known as Abia Coalition against Corruption and for Good governance, says the Inspector General of Police has given his approval for their planned protest on Wednesday 19th February 2020 at Umuahia and Abuja.

In a release made available by the group, it says that the protest is to compel Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji to step down temporarily from his position as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, until the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) completes the investigation wherein he and his father, Senator Theodore Ahamefule Orji are alleged to have defrauded Abia State unimaginable sum of money.

The group stated that it will not be wise for the Speaker to continue to preside over the affairs of the Abia State House of Assembly, when the allegation is hanging on his and his father's neck.

It hinted that the Umuahia protest shall commence at Okpara Square, then move to the Government House and then terminate at the Abia State House of Assembly, adding that it shall be a peaceful protest.

The release further revealed that all Newspapers affiliated to the News Agency of Nigeria shall send their correspondents to monitor the protest, while TV stations shall cover the event.
